Steampunk Revisted

Thanks to a reader (that's totally you Camille), I was told to go and check out Steampunk Wedding Cakes. I was floored! They are beautiful, detailed and the colors ... well, you'll have to go check them out for yourself, here is one to wet your pallet :)

Yes, that is a wedding cake! Check out Cake Wrecks for more pictures and links.

An Education: Steampunk

I am beginning to heart all things Steampunk. Don't get too worried, I'm not going to let it get out of control (there may be elements, but not full costumes, you won't be embarrassed to be seen with me, unless you already are and then there is no help for that). However, as many people in blogs and other sites point out, no one really knows what it is (weird isn't a definition). Wikipedia (my favorite) states that Steampunk: involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often featureanachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; in other words, based on a Victorian perspective on fashionculturearchitectural styleart, etc. This technology may include such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne or real technologies like the computer but developed earlier in an alternate history.

Is that a bit much? Okay, lets look at some examples,
They are sorta Victorian/Sci-Fi ... and totally cool :) I love her goggles and super fun dress. They are nerds that are running the world because the world runs on machines. Don't get this confused with computers, the machines are controlled by people and not the other way around.

Did you know: that there are Steampunk Clubs where people dress up and play along? I know, I won't be going to one anytime soon (it's kinda like a Renaissance Festival, I like the idea of one, but I don't really want to go to one).

Why I love Steampunk? It's cool, the jewelry rocks (which I started collecting before I even knew what it was) and the idea is fun.

I also really like the mechanical apparatuses you can wear.

Not sure what I'd do with these, but that doesn't stop me from wanting them.

Steampunk is Simple Awesome :)
